Junk Rig Conversion

Junk Rig Conversion

As well as our day to day dinghy and garden feature build we are also active in 'Junk Rig Conversion'.  In this instance we have taken a very tired 1976 Van de Stadt 'Pandora International' and re-rigged her as a junk.  The process involved clearing the decks of the old bermudan fittings.  We then reinforced the front hatch and permanently glassed it in place.  An extra reinforcing deck shelf was added, then a 1/4" tube was bonded on reinforced hull and through the hatch.  The mast was constructed from aluminium tube with a hollow 6 stave douglas fir top mast.  The complete mast was then sheaved in woven roving fibreglass mat.  The sail was also made in house.  Other improvements carried out by us have been making a mould to replace the window frames and bonding in new perspex windows.  New sail cover to protect the sail.  A boom gallows and spray hood to keep the weather out.
